The Famous KWKH Microphone Contest
Imagine performing on stage or recording in a studio with the RCA Model 44BX microphone from KWKH and The Louisiana Hayride that was used by countless luminaries to record their radio programs, demos, and hit songs. This monumental list includes Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Slim Whitman, Jimmie Davis, Kitty Wells, Patsy Montana, Ike & Tina Turner, George Jones, Fats Domino, and so many more!
If you're a singer, musician, or in a band, you can donate just $5 for the opportunity to be selected to use this famed Model 44BX at one of your performances or recording sessions!
You'll be using the same mic that Hank used on his daily radio show and last single ("The Log Train") that was recorded just a few weeks before he died. Elvis, Fats, Cash, and Jones used it to record demos and Ike & Tina cut a few tracks with it! Dale Hawkins used the mic to record the original version of "Susie Q" and John Fred used it on the #1 hit “Judy in Disguise.”
Best of all, your tax-deductible donation will directly benefit the veterans we are serving through our programs and initiatives. Follow these four simple steps to enter the contest:
1. Go to our Donation page.
2. Enter 5 in the Custom Amount box.
3. Select "KWKH Microphone Contest" as the referral source from the pull-down menu.
4. Complete the transaction!
Gimme Five is the brainchild of our board member, Joey Kent. He will travel to the locations of winners to assist with the mic's use!
Help veterans in need for just $5 and use one of the most famous microphones in history! This is a huge win for singers, bands and our foundation. Thank you for your support.
And what's Jack White doing in a photograph with the 44BX?
Well, Joey Kent met up with Slim Jim Phantom of The Stray Cats in Nashville to interview Jack. They talked about Elvis and The Louisiana Hayride, then Mr. White freaked out when he saw the mic! The result was the historic photograph you see here.
Small print: please note that one donation must be made during each calendar year to be eligible for the three drawings in that particular year.
